The Radio Station site is one of the most significant redevelopment opportunities
anywhere in the UK today.
Because of this exciting potential, Rugby Radio Station Limited Partnership (RRSLP) is working to put together a set of proposals which achieve a productive re-use of the site.

The development team is continuing to conduct detailed studies and technical assessments to inform the emerging plans. At the same time, we are continuing to talk to a mix of local, regional and national representatives and stakeholders to provide updates and listen to views.

As the detailed technical work reaches a conclusion, the team will be bringing forward a planning application for the proposed sustainable urban extension on the land that lies within Rugby Borough.

The team is also progressing an application for the proposed expansion of DIRFT on the land within Daventry District. These proposals currently constitute ‘nationally significant infrastructure’ and would therefore fall within the remit of the Infrastructure Planning Commission (IPC). A ‘Statement of Community Consultation’, detailing how local consultation will occur, has already been agreed with Daventry District Council.
The redevelopment of
the Radio Station site
(on both the Rugby and the
Daventry sides of the A5)
could deliver:
JOBS
Regenerating the overall site brings the opportunity to create thousands of new jobs locally. Our vision is that these should be good quality jobs, boosting the local economy and providing improved opportunities in the area.

The Radio Station’s excellent location means that it has the potential for large scale logistics employment and to accommodate a Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) – a crucial piece of national infrastructure which will help to ensure more goods move around the UK by rail instead of on the roads. Jobs would be generated both within this logistics development, which is expected to be an extension to the existing and highly successful SRFI facility at DIRFT, and also within other businesses / services expected across the overall development.

Within the Rugby application, the sustainable urban extension to Rugby will bring the opportunity for approximately 2,800 new jobs within Rugby Borough. These would span a mix of industries including office-based jobs as well as retail and people working in the services that the development would require (eg schools and healthcare).
